The written check has been on my list of things that the world just doesn’t need anymore. Other things in this list include VHS, Crocs, Web 2.0, Rap songs about Superman’ing’ hoes, etc. But then someone gets inventive with the iPhone and like Harry from ‘Dumb and Dumber’ the check totally redeems itself!

USAA is a private bank which now allows select customers to make check deposits into their account using the camera function on their iPhone. Download the application, take a picture of the front and back of the check and the bank will process the check as if you had handed it to them in person.

This is a great example of applying new technology to old processes. More out of the box thinking like this and we may finally get those flying cars I’ve been waiting (patiently) for.
