You were truly an original Amy Winehouse. So refreshing; a throwback at a time when soul seemed absent. I can only imagine what your next album would have sounded like, but we are thankful for “Frank” and “Back to Black”. So thankful!

“It’s just not my pride, It’s just till these tears have dried. They tried to make me go to Rehab…”

It’s official. All types of music are blending into one. This song by Washington native Lemolo is a soft ballad with electro rhythms. A critic labled it “electro-folk”. It’s okay though, good music will always be good music.

Thanks TB for the find.

Catching up on my reality TV tonight. This was one of those performances that make you rewind your DVR, watch and repeat.

This has been out for a while, but I couldn’t pass over this when I saw it. Lissie has a ton of personality and she’s just plain not afraid to go after it. She’s covered Lady Gaga and Metallica and the general feedback is that she rocks them all. Check out this cover of Kid Cudi’s classic “Pursuit of Happiness” where she makes it her own and even takes a shot of tequila before she does it.

A-Ha’s “Take On Me” was one of the first videos that I remember being completely enthralled with on MTV. “How the heck did they do that?!” “He’s real, but he’s a cartoon?” “What kind of henchmen runs around with a wrench?” To this day, I still have those questions…

Adele’s commanding voice and ability to to make you feel the lyrics is the perfect instrument for covers. I’d listen to her sing me the yellow pages. This song entitled, “Hiding My Heart” is off her recently released Sophomore album “21″. A cover of Brandi Carlile’s hidden track on her 2007 album, “The Story”.

“But like everything I’ve ever known
You’ll disappear one day
So I’ll spend my whole life hiding my heart away
I can’t spend my whole life hiding my heart away”

Having lived in LA for a little over a year I met some amazing people and true artists all waiting and hoping for their big break. Until you’ve spent some real time in that city it’s hard to fathom how much mind-blowing talent really exists. It makes it disgusting to witness people like Ke$ha make it to stardom when there are truly gifted and deserving artists who would give anything for just a shot. Case and point, check out Lisa Scinta, she’s got so much talent that you just need to give her a keyboard and a mic and put her in a bathroom. This cover of Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” is refreshing because she’s completely put her own twist on it and sings it like her career depends on it.

Here’s a toast to the true artists out there.

I’ll be the first to admit that this song is quite a departure from what you’re used to hearing from us, but hey Fresh is Fresh right? To compound that, I’m leaving for Kauai tomorrow and in my mind I’m already on a white sandy beach with a beverage which can only be served with an umbrella. Mishka serves up a reggae sound with thoughtful lyrics and a great arrangement of those classic reggae instruments we know and love.

Likely won’t be able to post while I’m in paradise, but trust me, I’ll be back sooner than I’d like.

I’m a big Mayer fan. This guy is hilarious. Check out his foray into hip hop and drum machines. Watch your back Kanye.

“Now you bring your loving back, but don’t you know your love is black. And now you’re here pouring in the dark ’cause you can’t see inside my heart.”

“And I’m forever excusing your intentions and I give in to my pretendings which forgive you each time without me knowing they melt my heart to stone.”

A lot of buzz has been going around about Adele. She’s got soul, that’s for sure. But really… who doesn’t have some soul when this kickdrum beat is placed on their vocals?
