This post came about in a funny way. While I was sitting at my computer, Andrew messaged me to “Post Rihanna Photographs.” A couple things came to mind at that point… Rihanna has had a couple famous photo scandals to breakout recently however I did not think they were ComingFresh worthy, more like ComingStale (That one was for you Hollander.) My next thoughts were, “Did Rihanna have yet another leaked photo?” And “Since when did we start posting pictures?” Before I could question Andrew’s judgement any further he confirmed that it was a new song from her album, “Rated R.” You can imagine my relief when I heard this. I was a little worried Andrew was leading this site towards its other suggestive meaning.

“Battle Studies”, The long awaited 4th studio album of John Mayer, is set to hit stores November 19th. With that being said, pirated versions have popped up all over the web. How does a savvy superstar combat that? For every person that pre-ordered “Battle Studies”, Mayer has issued a unique code allowing access to a pre-sale of his upcoming concert. Though it didn’t deter me to download the music early, it did make me want to pre-order to get better seats. Thanks Mike and Lea for the info!

You may not be aware because of all the exposure she is getting from her track with Jay-Z but, Alicia Keys is slated to release her own album entitled “The Element of Freedom”, at the end of this year. “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart”, The second single off of Alicia’s 4th studio album, has a hard bass line that carries you through her struggle of getting over her ex.

Epic Halloween weekend in Whistler. LOTS of dancing (in cages), partying (charged to the game) and new music! This cut is by Cheryl Cole. Originally a member of the UK group Girls Aloud and recently joining the judging ranks of X-Factor; her debut solo album has gone straight to the top of the charts along with this song ‘Fight for this Love’ giving her the elusive double #1 on the UK charts.

Can’t say she has the most thrilling voice, but the beats are undeniable and the hook is catchy as hell.

I think I might just be a sucker for the sample they use in this song. Pretty Brown Eyes by Mint Condition was one of my favorites back in the day (and still makes a cameo on my Ipod from time to time.) The production of this song begs me to pose a question: If they are using the songs we listened to growing up as samples now, does that make us old?

After successful endeavors with their respective bands, Wes Miles (Think the coach of LSU with a slight lisp) of Ra Ra Riot and Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend come to together to form the group Discovery. So different than anything I have heard out there in musicland. The beat is almost reminiscent of the 80’s and is very intoxicating.

Andrew found this “little secret” and I happened to play it accidentally on his ITunes one day. I have been hooked ever since. For all you Seattleites, if you want to check these guys out, they will be playing the Showbox at the Market on October 11th. I will be there.

Sampling from Jay-Z’s track bearing the same name, “Sunshine” is another song that brings the summer heat. At initial glance, Phyllisia is stunning. She was first spotted sharing the stage with Ne-Yo on his Closer video. I was taken back when I found out she could actually sing. Total package??

Dear Whitney,

We’ve missed you. I was worried we lost you for good. Just when I wrote you off as a crack head, a song pops up and makes you sound like you are in a good, upbeat place. I look forward to your album and that one ballad that makes me shed a tear even though Kevin Costner is in the movie. You make me feel, like a million dollar bill.

I will always love you,
Steve

Straight from the British electropop scene is La Roux. Just heard their album and it is good from the beginning to the end. This track stuck out a little more from the rest due to its catchy hook.

I am just recovering from a crazy weekend in Vegas for Garrett’s Birthday and other than a lost voice and blurry memories, I came back with a new love for house music. Nothing gets the crowd moving more than a good DJ and Miguel Migs can get you sweaty.

Dropping into the same genre as our previous post of Coastline Journey, Falling is set to a reggae drum beat that you want to chill to you. Bauer drew our attention to this group and for that, he receives an over-the-internet pat on the back.

I first heard this song on SYTYCD and was instantly hooked. The song is quite catchy (Europeans seem to think so; it is #1 on the European Hot 100 singles.)

Back from a long hiatus and so much has happened. We returned from a most incredible trip to Hawaii and witnessed my brother marry the love of his life. After such an exuberant celebration, we touch down on the mainland to find out that one of my all-time idols, Michael Jackson, had passed away. The juxtaposition between events could not have been greater. Initially, I was in a state of denial. We would hear from him/about him sporadically as a reminder that he was still there, but this final “breaking news” would inform us that he wasn’t. It took awhile for the gravity of the news to set in and it wasn’t until I started to watch old footage of his performances and appearances did I finally realize we wouldn’t get to witness that again. He was mesmerizing on stage and intriguing off of it. There was an interview in which he stated that “Childhood” was his most autobiographical song he has ever written. In the song, he laments about a childhood he missed out on and pleads, “before you judge me, try hard to love me.” After listening to it again, I couldn’t help but feel sympathetic and trapped for him at the same time. Michael Jackson was not ours to have, but he gave us everything he had. Its really sad that it took his passing for the media to reflect on the positive things that he contributed to our world. My hope is that Michael is remembered and loved as the amazing entertainer that he was and not judged as the monster the media made him out to be.

Fresh out the box is Casanova, a new single from Tennmen (Justin Timberlake’s label) recording artist Esmee Denters. I guess its fitting that Justin makes a cameo on this song since its his first artist he signed.

In a follow-up to the highly acclaimed “D*** In A Box”, Timberlake and Samberg continue where they left off in this ode to mothers everywhere. I still can’t get enough of this video.

“It would be my honor to be your new Stepfather.”

One look at this video and I was captivated by its simplicity and artistic nature. Francis has a sound comparable to Prince and the vocals are backed by a funky beat that is mesmerizing. The last 20 seconds of the video are dope. You also have to check out “A Modern Promise” after the link.

Lindsay Lohan

Another track to come out of the Pandora archives is this shaker from Lindsay Lohan (yes, Lindsay “I am crazy” Lohan.) Written and produced by Ne-Yo and Stargate specifically for Lohan, it definitely surprised me as something I would party to.

Colin Munroe is definitely a fresh sound. Asked to define his music, Colin states “It’s a bit of a mish-mash of Rock, Pop, Soul and Hip-Hop. It doesn’t fit in one particular box, but it can get along with most people.” Recently wrapping up a tour with Kid Cudi, Wale and Mark Ronson, Colin Munroe is destined for a bright future.
