The year was 1986. I was 6. I remember Pete “Maverick” Mitchell had just made his biggest hater, Tom “Iceman” Kasansky, his wingman and Michael “Crocodile” Dundee showed would-be thieves what a real knife looked like. Also in 86, Steve Winwood released “Higher Love” which would eventually win him a Grammy for Record of the Year. I can’t say if I first liked this song during the same time frame or I adopted it after a VH1 Pop-up Videos special spotlighting the 80’s. Either way, I still do enjoy this song. This mellowed out acoustic version by James Vincent McMorrow is one of the best covers I have heard in awhile. If you are in the Seattle area, check him out at the Triple Door on September 21st.
Love this song and sad I am missing him while he’s in town.
